Care Instructions

Here at Indigo Finery each piece is handcrafted with passion and love.

It is important to look after your piece to ensure enduring value.

Here are a few tips and tricks below that will guide you to keep your pieces clean, safe and well taken care of.

Oxidising

Metals naturally develop a layer of oxidisation over a period of time, which is caused by oxygen, skin acidity and perfumes.

No one's body acidity levels are the same, so if you happen to have a more acidic skin, the oxidisation will happen faster.

Some silver jewellery can also oxidise if it isn’t worn on a regular basis. This is totally natural and super easy to get rid of using a polishing/non-abrasive cloth.

Opals

Opals: Avoid bleach, chemicals, direct perfume & cleaners - basically avoid any harsh chemicals.

General care

If your gemstone rings aren’t sparkling the way they used to, you can take an old, soft toothbrush/soft small brush and add a tiny amount of Handy Andy cream to clean the gemstones. Once you’ve brushed your piece, make sure you rinse it properly with running water.

If the piece contains any emeralds, pearls or opals, please DO NOT try clean these pieces at home, rather take them into your nearest jewellery store.

Be careful if your piece is plated, as using a harsh cloth could damage the coating layer.

Be careful when leaving your pieces in direct sunlight as the sun could discolour some gemstones.

Chlorine and salt water could also have the potential to tarnish your pieces.

Try to make sure to never place your pieces in a place where they will rub against one another, as some metals/gemstones have different hardnesses and could scratch one another.

Natural gemstones will obviously vary in shape, size and colour. A lot of gemstones cannot withstand most cleaning agents, if you are unsure of how you should clean your piece, please feel free to contact me and I will gladly give you my thoughts and recommendations.

Jewellery pieces, just like anything in life, do require some maintenance. Please get your pieces checked to make sure that your stones' settings are secure. Prevention is always better than having to replace a stone because of a broken claw.

Plating

Unfortunately, plating is not a permanent thing. Plating is when we add a thin layer of your desired metal on-top of the (normally) silver ring. It does naturally wear off over time, which is completely dependant on how often the piece is worn and what kind of basic home-cleaning you do with your hands.

The plating can also be affected by your skin's acidity levels, the higher the acidity, the faster the coating will wear off.

Chains

Broken chains will not be exchanged or fixed. Chains are extremely delicate and need to be handled with care when being worn or stored.
